JCC Biotechnology and the HURI SURI Program was named as a high impact program by the Center of Assessment and Student Learning at Tennessee Tech who administer the Critical Thinking Assessment Test (CAT), an NSF sanctioned test of critical reasoning. Students who take the novel first semester biology course (Biology: A Molecular Approach) and engage in 1 year of undergraduate research in the program achieve on average levels of critical reasoning greater than students who have completed a four year degree. In this program students engage in undergraduate research through-out their time in JCC Biotech, even presenting their research at national and international scientific conferences.
Research Projects include mosquito evolution, lymes disease, cancer biology, etc. with collaborations from University of Rochester, University at Buffalo and Penn State College of Medicine and many other colleges/universities.
