Hood River Valley High School is a comprehensive high school that serves all students in Hood River County. Students in the Research, Genetics and Bioethics course gain experience with micro pipetting, gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation, and the Polymerase Chain Reaction. Course topics include animal and human research, genetically modified organisms, genetic testing, viruses and vaccine development and epigenetics. All topics are taught with an emphasis on bioethics and the application of science to society. Hood River Valley High School partners with the Amgen Biotechnology Experience program and Shoreline Community College to bring advanced laboratory techniques to students in a rural area.
