Ohlone's Biotechnology program provides students with excellent preparation in the hands-on skills and protocols used in local companies. Ohlone's students use modern equipment in state-of-the-art labs, and by their second semester are cloning DNA, growing mammalian cells in bioreactors, purifying proteins, sequencing DNA, and more. In addition, Ohlone's students receive training in the Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices that are standard in the biotechnology industry.
Ohlone College partners with several high schools through the Learning Alliance for Bioscience (LAB) program. The Learning Alliance for Bioscience (LAB Program) is a Career Pathway program that puts young learners on a path to success that starts in high school, leads to college, and ultimately to excellent job opportunities in the biotechnology industry.
Students begin the program in high school by taking core classes in biotechnology, having the opportunity to earn college credit while completing high school graduation requirements. The LAB program allows high school students to get a head start in a community college biotechnology program, without having to pay for tuiti
